The Trouble with Trouble by Abigail Rossiter, age 10, South Africa

Let me tell you more about Trouble, a little puppy dog who has been very naughty and getting into deep, deep trouble.

So I think you know why she’s called Trouble… because she has a new naughty adventure every day.

We got her 3 weeks ago and she’s good, well, most of the time.

She’s fun to play with, but can be a bit rough and when you’re cross with her she does puppy dog eyes which work every time!

Enough about her, let me tell you a little bit about me. I am 10 years old and I have always wanted a puppy.

My name is Lily and I love animals especially this puppy.

Let me tell you about an adventure she got up to recently…

“Bye Trouble, see you after school” Lily said as she walked out the door.

“Where is she going?” thought Trouble.

“Trouble, it’s food time” said dad walking through and scaring Trouble.

Trouble was so happy she yapped and barked excitedly for her food. “Yum, this is the best part of the day” she thought.

After eating her food dad let Trouble outside for some fresh air.

Trouble was lying down in the grass rolling around, but then, out of the corner of her eye she spotted something move.

It was flying so she decided to follow it.

A few minutes later she found herself in the back of a van and now it was moving! Trouble felt scared and alone she yapped and barked, but no one came to rescue her.

A little while later Lily came back from school waiting for Trouble to come and tackle her, but instead Trouble didn’t.

A long while later Lily had just finished her Mom’s spaghetti bolognese for supper and was worrying about Trouble.

She hadn’t come home yet!

“Don’t worry Honey” Dad said, “Would you like to go for a walk and look for her?”

“Ok but what if we don’t find her” said Lily.

“We will” said Mum.

“Promise?” said Lily feeling nervous. “Promise!” said Mum looking at Dad with a nervous look on her face.

“Go put some takkies on and a jacket, it’s cold outside” said Mum. Lily came back with takkies and a jacket on.

“Let’s go” she said.

That same evening, Trouble was still in the van! When it stopped, the man driving it got out and opened the back door where Trouble was sitting and then…….. Trouble jumped out!

Trouble raced away from the van, she was so panicked she just ran and ran.

A little while later Trouble stopped running and sat down feeling out of breath and exhausted.

She looked around wondering where she was. Then she smelt something familiar.

It was Mom’s spaghetti bolognese and Trouble knew she wasn’t too far from her home. She was in her road and she started to run again.

Trouble ran all the way home and arrived home to find that no-one was there. She sat on the step and waited for Lily to come home from school.

Lily was fed up and worried, “Where is Trouble, Mum? She isn’t anywhere in the park? Let’s just go home.” she said sadly.

“Honey, do you really want to just go home?” said Mum. “Yes” said Lily with tears in her eyes. “Ok then, let’s just go home” said Mum.

Mum, Dad and Lily walked home slowly feeling sad.

They were two houses down from their house when Lily said “Mum, Dad, what’s that on our doorstep?”

“We don’t know” they said.

Lily got closer and closer to her house, and soon she realised it was Trouble.

“TROUBLE!” she said with tears running down her cheeks and her legs running down the road.

She scooped Trouble up in her arms and wrapped them around her neck.

When all of them were inside Lily went up to Trouble and said in a stern voice “Don’t ever scare me like that again!”

But she was so happy to see Trouble again that she just couldn’t stay angry with Trouble’s cute face and she just hugged and kissed her on the nose.
