What inspired this painting
I painted this sub-tropical landscape on a visit to Florida because it made me nostalgic for my happy childhood days spent in East-Africa.
The fronds of the elegant coconut trees swaying in the wind on the banks of the Miami River flowing by was a truly magical feeling for me.
In 1967, I migrated with my family as a little girl from Kenya and Tanzania to England where we stayed for 5 years in Kent before migrating again to Canada in 1972.
However, I must say that the beautiful tropical landscape of Africa imprinted itself on my soul – and for me when I think of “home” it is Africa in my heart, always.
