Oil on canvas
What inspired this painting
The gritstone ridge just outside Sheffield is a stunning visual spectacle in the Peak District National Park.
I am regularly drawn to it to revel in the remote and rugged beauty.
On the 20th May 2020 lockdown was eased a bit and I took the opportunity to recharge my battery and absorb the splendid beauty and awesome grandeur of this natural form.
I walked the ridge in search of the motif including the scale and constantly shifting colour as light travelled across the landscape.
The correct location included the rock leading the eye into the distance with a gentle serpentine curve, echoed with the road below in the valley painted en plein air, using oil on canvas 60cm x 45cm.
The picture came together quite quickly and I was really pleased with the result. I hope you like my efforts.
