***THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED***
Winners will be announced Friday 22nd May 2020
What’s the idea?
We know that parents everywhere are looking for ways to amuse the kids during lockdown – so we’ve launched a GLOBAL short story competition!
What’s the story?
These are unusual times.
A lot of us are at home, and many children aren’t able to go to school as usual.
We know from the parents who use our website, that many of them are looking for ways to keep their kids occupied.
So we decided to launch a short story competition, to help out.
And we made it global because, after all, we are a global community.
(We suspect we might be the ONLY global story competition for children on the planet but wait to be corrected!)
I had the idea because I have always loved writing.
I actually won a short story competition when I was about 8, and it encouraged me to keep going.
Eventually I went on to study English Literature at university, so it obviously had a bit of an effect!
I hope this competition will encourage children all over the world to love writing as much as I do.
People should do this because…?
There’s nothing more wonderful than getting lost in a magical story….and it’s even better when you’re the one writing it!
It’s a great way for kids to spend a few hours, stretching their imaginations.
We will publish every story we receive on the StuffToDoAtHome.com website for the WHOLE WORLD to read.
Who knows? We might find the next JK Rowling!
There’s also prizes of Amazon vouchers (or equivalent) for the winner and runner ups in each age category (£50, £25, and £10).
How do you do it?
WE ARE OPEN FOR ENTRIES BETWEEN 29TH APRIL AND 15TH MAY 2020.
The stories can be about anything, but they must be fictional (made-up) and not a factual account.
There are 2 age categories for the story writing competition:
5-9 and 10-14.
Stories should be a maximum of 750 words but it’s fine if they’re shorter.
For example, younger children might find it easier to just write 250-500 words – the entry will still be valid.
We can only accept one story per child.
Entries must be uploaded by an adult (parent, guardian, or teacher), who has the permission of the parent to do so.
You can upload entries between Wednesday 29th April 2020 and Friday 15th May 2020 inclusive.
Just go to our webform to submit the story:
We’re sorry, but we can’t accept submissions via post or email.
Winners will be announced on Friday 22nd May 2020.
