Play some Mad Libs!

What’s the Idea?

Mad Libs is an easy game to play anywhere, at almost any age and is guaranteed to get everyone giggling!

What’s the story

I had completely forgotten about Mad Libs until my kids’ godparents sent an Easter package from The States last week.

In the package contained a Mad Libs book – I was so excited and my husband nor my kids knew what all the fuss was about!

It was obviously a game I had grown up with but is not so common here in the UK. After I took a minute to explain, they all loved giving it a go!

People should do this because…?

This game is good to know about on many different levels and not just because it is fun and engaging!

You can get all different kinds of Mad Libs from adult to kids to themed ones…

Its something that just 2 of you can play or you can get the whole family involved!

You don’t have to look at a screen and minimal materials are required – just a pencil, Mad Libs book or one of the free printed PDF sheets from the website.

Playing this game helps my 6 year old practice her reading and writing and helps my 8 year old hone in on his grammar and build his vocabulary!

You can play it for 10 minutes if thats all the time you have or give a few of them a go!

How do you do it?

All you need is:

  • Mad Libs book (these can be found on Amazon or WH Smith)
  • Or go to madlibs.com and you can download some free PDF pages to print under the ‘Printables’ section

Once you have a Mad Libs book or PDF sheet determine who will be asking and writing the words and who will be answering them.

The person asking the questions will ask for a ‘noun, verb, colour, number etc…’ and fill in the responses in the blank spaces.

Once all of the answers are filled in go ahead and read the funny story out loud!

An example of how this can be done is in our video.
