Discover: Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish portrait

What’s the Idea?

Discover Billie Eilish,  the singer-songwriter.

What’s the story

I’ve been a Billie Eilish fan since I first watched the video for her single, “Bellyache”.

I instantly loved her dark edge

As well as the maturity in the lyrics

Plus her unique sound for one so young.

Since then I’ve followed her work

Billie Eilish is an American singer-songwriter

Although she lives in the U.S. she has performed in the UK

Unfortunately I missed seeing her live at Glastonbury 2019

Because I was working at the time.

People should do this because…?

Billie Eilish is an inspiration to young women and girls.

Because she has achieved so much in such a short space of time.

She writes her music with her brother Finneas O’Connell

And it’s unique, intelligent and emotive

How did they do it?*

Billie Eilish became famous after her first single, “Ocean Eyes” was released

Since then she has has become a global superstar.

Her album was called “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”

And it debuted at #1 in the Billboard 200 in the U.S.

It also went to number 1 in these countries:

  • UK
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • Netherlands
  • Belgium
  • Ireland
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Finland

As well as others. What an achievement!

Billie’s first album is now the biggest North American debut of the decade.

As it sold 313,000 units in the first week

Since it was released it has hit number 1 in the Billboard 200 album 3 times

Gaining more than 15 billion combined streams worldwide.

In 2019, Billie Eilish headlined “The Other Stage” at Glastonbury Festival.

And Time Magazine placed her on their “Time 100 Next” list.

Then she was crowned 2019 Billboard Woman of the Year.

Billie was nominated for six Grammy Awards

Including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Bad Guy

And for Album of the Year

As well as Best New Artist

At 17 she became the youngest artist to be nominated in all four General Field categories.

In 2020, Billie Eilish became the youngest artist to write and perform a James Bond theme song.

She called it “No Time To Die

It was written and produced with brother Finneas.

And became her first UK #1.

Then, at the 62nd Grammy Awards

Billie became the youngest person

And the first woman

To win all four main Grammy categories.

Which are:

  • Best New Artist
  • Record of the Year
  • Song of the Year
  • Album of the Year

During the 2019-20 Lockdown, Billie and Finneas have performed virtual concerts.

Which are part of iHeart Media’s Living Room Concert for America

And Global Citizen’s Together at Home concert series

Which raise awareness and funds

Towards fighting coronavirus.
